My Last Day at St. John of God

On the 4th December, I had finished my ten weeks of work experience in St. John of God. I must say it was a good ten weeks. I learned a lot from working there and I'm grateful that they gave me a place there. They welcomed me with open arms and they tried to make me feel at ease as much as possible and for that I am thankful. Although I liked working at St. John of God, I discovered that it's not the career I want for the future.

I will miss all of the staff there and I hope in the future I will get to see them again. Maybe even get a part time job there when I'm older. But overall, it was a memorable experience and I'm very excited to start my second work placement. Its at a beauty clinic and I'm curious on what this work experience will hold.

Fashion Show!

On 25th and 26th November, the St. Wolstan fashion show took place. It was held in the Celbridge Manor Hotel and many people came. It was a full house. There were models on the catwalk, dancers ranging from hip hop to ballet and singers. But not all the action happened on stage, there was also Mini Companies set up. There were lots of unique products just waiting to be sold. It was fantastic.

I was modelling for a Ty company called, Seem. They designed bracelets, necklaces and bows. Their products are beautiful and I'm amazed on how they had the skill to make those accessories. Modelling for them for the fashion show was a great and fun experience.

There many acts that went up on the stage. My favourite ones were when the ballerinas danced to Ed Sheeran's song, 'Thinking Out Loud' and 'Blank Space' by Taylor Swift. Their performance blew me away. The teachers were great too. It was truly entertaining to see them model. They were brilliant I must say.

Overall, the fashion was great and I hope we get another opportunity to do it again in the future.

Mini Company

Mini Company is one of the most exciting and memorable experience in TY. But it can sometimes be stressful. We were given a month to create a  unique product we would sell. A month is a long enough time right? Well time flew by very quickly and as it came closer to the end of the month, we were panicking because we couldn't settle on an idea. Fortunately, in the end we agreed on mason jars. We would get clear jars and decorate them and people will decide on what they want to do with it. Turn it into either a make up brush holder, flower vase etc. Our product name is 'Jar of Art'.

There are roles in each group. There is MD (Managing Director), Marketing, Sales and Finance. I'm Finance and I'm not so sure if I chose correctly. I like maths but I'm not so good at it.

There is a fashion show coming up so it gives us a great opportunity to sell our jars. We are pressured for time and have to get at least 40 jars made in under 1 week and a bit. It is going to be one hectic week.

Carton House

On 18th November, we went to Carton House for an art exhibition. The art exhibition was in Maynooth so it wasn't a long journey. When we arrived, I was amazed by the art pieces I saw. They were all unique and each one had a special meaning to it. My favourite one would have to be the 'Blue Moon' statue by Catherine Greene. I really like this piece because I like the concept of wolves. Wolves are kind gentle animals but once you threaten their loved ones, they can become one of the most relentless creatures out there. In my opinion, I think the statue represents the similarities of a wolf and a human being. Human beings can be gentle and warm but by threatening the people who are close to us, we can become protective and defensive people.

Walk in My Shoes

Walk in my shoes day was designed to raise awareness for Mental Health Week. The task was basically to come in to school wearing funky shoes along with having a non- uniform day.

On the day I came in to school, everyone was wearing funky shoes. Ranging from, monkey slippers to stunning heels, everyone got into the spirit of walk in my shoes day. The teachers were going around class by class, to see who had the most funkiest of shoes. I even saw a few people wear wellies.

The halls were covered with colorful, funky shoes. Walk in my shoes was a great way to let students express their inner fashion self and it gave us a break from the usual maroon uniform we all wore everyday.

Fun Walk

On 2nd October, St. Wolstan's had their annual Fun Walk. Every year has their own colors.

First years: Pink
Second years: Purple
Third years: Green
Transition years: Yellow
Fifth years: Blue
Sixth years: Black and WhiteWhite

When everyone was called down to the tennis courts, it looked like a rainbow. All the different colors looked wonderful.

The Fun Walk is a great way to raise awareness for anti- bullying week. All the classes are working together and sharing a great experience that will surely be memorable.

My favourite part of the Fun Walk is when everyone shows the performance they have been working on. Its fun to watch the different performances from every class. Some are amusing, others are filled with flips and cartwheels and some make you want to dance along. But overall, all the performances are exciting to watch. Especially when its your class's turn to perform, now that is when the nerves kick in.

The actual Fun Walk itself is also fun but I'm always tired by the time we get half way through the walk. But it gives students to just have fun and chat with their friends.

My Digital Footprint

A digital footprint is a mark, a trace or a trail you leave on the internet. We all have digital footprints, be it from uploading pictures/videos, emails or the biggest one of all, our social networking sites. We have all been on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or even Tumblr, one point in our lives. But just by watching a video, searching up friends or uploading your new profile picture, you are leaving your digital footprint. Everything we do online contributes to our digital footprint.

Our digital footprints connect us to millions of people around the globe. Via Skype, Oovoo, Kik, Viber. Everything we post online will be displayed to thousands of people and even if you delete something doesn't mean it's completely gone. It may seem gone to you but it will always be there. So remember, think before you post.

A way to find your trace of your digital footprint, look yourself up on Google. Type in your full name and hit search. See what shows up and examine your digital footprint.

Carlingford

My experience from the Carlingford trip was unforgettable. We did so many activities, but my favorite one was the laser tag combat. It was our last activity for the trip and it was a great way to end our fun filled adventure. The guns were awesome. It felt like you were carrying an actual gun and it was easy to shoot people. We got to hide behind a castle, shelter under wooden forts and sneak behind our opponents. I felt like a true assassin.

I didn't like the water activities as much as the land based activities. Due to the weather being a bit chilly and it did not help when we had to wear wet suits that didn't provide us any heat what so ever. I even saw some people with holes on theirs. But I enjoyed it needless to say. Especially the part when we got to jump on the water trampoline. That was fun.

The food in Carlingford was actually very delicious. After a long day filled with A LOT of moving around, it was nice to get a good meal at the end of the day.

Carlingford was both a tiring but memorable experience and I would like to go back again someday.

The Day of My Junior Cert Results

On the day of my JC results, I was super nervous. At first I was trying to hide the fact that I was scared but when it came to the actual day of the results, I just couldn't hide it in anymore. The curiosity was killing me and I just wanted everything to be done and dusted.

When I entered the school, my nerves increased by ten and I felt more nervous than ever. It didn't help when I looked around and saw everybody else panicking. I tried to keep myself calm by taking deep breaths.

Minutes later, everyone was made to go to the hall to receive our results. Feelings of being nervous, worried and scared went through me and I just wanted to run home. Our principal gave us a talk about keeping calm and to be grateful for what is to come and that helped to calm my nerves a bit.

When I finally did get my results I was content with them. I didn't fail anything so I was grateful for that. I know I put in my best effort and my marks showed that. I will try and improve in the future and hopefully develop my skills.

My First TY Day of Workshops

My first workshop was called 'Positive Parties'. When I walked into the room, music was playing and there were balloons and posters displayed on the walls. The room looked and felt lively. The lady who led the workshop was humorous and fun. Throughout the workshop we got to dance, sing, laugh and tell stories about ourselves. It was a fun experience.

My second workshop was 'First Aid'. I got the opportunity to learn how and when to do CPR, what to do when you see someone collapse, what to do when a person is having a heart attack etc. We also got to practice on how to put a sling on properly. I found the workshop very interesting.

Lastly, my Etiquette workshop. This was my favourite workshop from the three. Our first activity was to get into groups and write a fact about each person in the group. The speaker would then go up and say one of the facts and the other groups would have to guess who the fact belonged to. In the end, the team I was in won. Later on, we got to walk in heels down a red carpet. This was to help us have the correct posture. Lastly (my favourite part), we got to try out this product that was suppose to exfoliate your skin. After i washed my hands, my hands felt so soft and I could tell the product told the truth. This workshop was my favourite and I would love to be able to try it again.

My First Day in TY

My day in TY was interesting. It felt like being in first year all over again. I was lost multiple times, but with the help of my timetable, teachers and friends, I got to my classes on time. It was nice to see my friends again and to catch up with them all. Overall, I am very excited for this year. I hope it will be a fun adventure, that I will be able to learn new skills and experience new things.
